In an era where digital technology is growing rapidly, possessing basic computer skills is one thing, but having a deep understanding of "Artificial Intelligence (AI)" is the new key to unlocking the future. Ms. Sroeun Sok Heng, a Grade 11 student at Techo Sen Tbaung Khmum High School, is a prime example of the new generation. She has transformed herself from an ordinary technology user into someone who uses AI effectively and responsibly after participating in the "AI Literacy Training," hosted by AI Ready ASEAN project (AI RAP), implemented by Kampuchea Action to Promote Education (KAPE) cooperated with Department of Digital Transformation (DDT), led by the ASEAN Foundation with financial support from Google.org.

Before joining this training, Sok Heng had heard of and knew a little about AI, but her understanding was limited. She admitted that her past use of AI was ineffective; specifically, she did not know how to use "Prompts" correctly and did not clearly understand how AI could assist in her studies. This lack of clarity caused her to miss out on leveraging this powerful technology to help lighten her school workload and research tasks.

The AI Literacy Training became a turning point for Sok Heng. Through this training course, she studied several key topics in detail, including:

  • Understanding Generative AI and various types of AI.
  • Techniques for writing Prompts to get the best answers.
  • Using AI in educational contexts and daily life.
  • Specifically, using AI to verify and counter disinformation.

The topic that interested Sok Heng the most was "Types of AI," as it allowed her to clearly understand the different capabilities and functions of this technology.

After completing the training, Sokheng immediately applied the knowledge she gained to her studies and daily life, leading to significant positive changes: (1). Academic Efficiency: Sok Heng is now able to use AI as a research assistant to find information quickly. She knows how to use AI to summarize long texts, explain technical terms, and find references, which helps her save much more time than before. (2). Creative Inspiration: AI not only helps answer questions but also assists Sokheng in brainstorming new ideas for research papers and school projects, resulting in higher-quality work. (3). Confidence and Sharing: From a student who used to be doubtful, Sok Heng has become confident in using technology. Furthermore, she is committed to becoming an "advocate," promising to share this knowledge with family members and friends so they can understand the benefits and learn to use AI in line with global advancements.

"Inputting the correct data makes AI smarter. We must learn to use it because AI is the key to saving time and creating the convenience that modern people cannot lack," said Miss Sroeun Sok Heng focusing on lessons in her classroom.

She continued "Before, I just knew AI was a computer that could think, but I didn't know how to command it. After passing this training, I found that AI is an amazing partner that helps inspire me to be smarter and significantly lightens my workload. I am committed to sharing this knowledge with my friends and family because I want them to clearly understand that technology is not something to be feared, but a powerful tool for growth if we know how to use it correctly."

The whole success story of Sroeun Sok Heng clearly demonstrates that AI Literacy is not just about learning technology; it is about empowerment. It empowers students to manage and lead technology to serve their education and build a bright future.
