Strengthening Librarians' Capacity in Using the PMB Library Management System
Date : 2025-12-11

Phnom Penh: The Improving Digital Education for All Learners (IDEAL) project organized a crucial training session on the Library Management System (PMB) for 43 librarians and school leaders from 12 target schools across Phnom Penh and Kandal province.
Held over two days from December 11–12, 2025, at the Prek Leap High School meeting hall, the training aimed to strengthen librarians' capacity to utilize technology for more effective, accurate, and modernized library management.
Notably, PMB is an automated library management software that serves as a highly secure database. The system facilitates document management, records and tracks book borrowing and returning, and allows for the rapid generation of reports to analyze student reading habits, enabling clear planning for future reading programs.
Mrs. Hok Sath, Principal of Prek Sdei Primary School, expressed her delight regarding the training, stating that "This library management system is truly essential for facilitating librarians' work, including data retrieval, reporting, and recording. As schools are places that nurture children into well-rounded human resources, modernizing libraries to keep up with the digital age is absolutely necessary."
Meanwhile, Ms. Oye Mithona, a librarian at Roka Kaong Primary School, noted that "The IDEAL project has provided librarians with the opportunity to develop their skills and advance library standards. Using this technology makes it easier for us to monitor student reading activities and saves significant time when searching for documents."
Through this training, participants gained both theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on experience with the PMB system, instilling high confidence in their ability to perform their duties. This marks a shift from traditional work habits to a digital work environment, creating a more interactive learning atmosphere and promoting a culture of lifelong learning.
It should be noted that this initiative is funded by ChorogUsan for Children, which provided the PMB system to all target schools. This contributes not only to strengthening librarian capacity but also actively promotes creative and inclusive digital education.
