Onboarding Meeting on AI Ready ASEAN Project Progress
Date : 2025-05-21

May 20, 2025 – KAPE held a pivotal online onboarding meeting, marking the launch of the AI Ready ASEAN project, a transformative initiative aimed at advancing digital literacy across Cambodia. Hosted at 9:00 AM, the meeting brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the ASEAN Foundation and KAPE to align on goals, share progress, and plan for impactful implementation.
The project is supported by Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, which funds initiatives to advance technology education and digital inclusion globally. KAPE, a leading educational NGO, is spearheading this effort by engaging 400 schools and 118 master trainers to deliver awareness-raising activities and contextualized AI literacy modules. The meeting highlighted the strong collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication (MPTC), ensuring a robust framework for digital transformation.
Mr. Sar Sophanak, a project coordinator, emphasized KAPE’s ongoing contributions to digital initiatives, including the development of a Digital Media and Information Literacy framework and a Learning Management System in collaboration with MPTC. This synergy underscores commitment to equipping Cambodian youths with essential 21st-century skills.
The project work plan, presented during the meeting, outlines a clear roadmap for 2025 and 2026. Key milestones include:
- School and Trainer Selection: KAPE has completed the selection of 400 schools and 118 master trainers, setting the stage for widespread AI literacy outreach.
- Awareness Campaign: Scheduled to begin in the third week of May, the campaign will leverage the Ministry of Education’s network to engage focal points at each school, ensuring effective dissemination of AI literacy resources.
- Nomination Letters: An official nomination letter from the Ministry of Education will formalize school participation, with discussions planned for May to finalize this process.
- Project Launch: A formal launch is targeted in June 2025, with preparations underway to collaborate with the Ministry on invitations.
- Curriculum Localization and Training: KAPE awaits the final AI literacy module from partners to begin localization, with teacher training planned for August.
Beyond technical implementation, the AI Ready ASEAN project prioritizes human impact stories to showcase the transformative power of digital literacy. Ms Intan, a project officer, emphasized the importance of documenting these stories to highlight the program’s real-world impact on students, teachers, and communities.
As Cambodia embraces the digital age, KAPE’s AI Ready campaign is a beacon of progress. By fostering collaboration between government, NGOs, and educational institutions, the initiative aims to empower a generation with the skills to thrive in an AI-driven world. Stay tuned for updates as the campaign unfolds, bringing digital literacy to every corner of the nation.
